A Mexican cuisine without clichés
Canchanchan, the new restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Roberto Ruiz, invites us on ajourney through Mexican gastronomy with a fresh, refined perspective—one that movesaway from stereotypes. The lighting design by Light & Studio integrates seamlessly intothis narrative with an architectural and sensorial approach, conceived to support a cuisinethat blends pre-Hispanic roots with Mediterranean sensitivity
The project draws inspiration from the work of architect Luis Barragán, whose influence can be felt both in the spatial language and in the colour palette. The iconicBarragánblue—deep, intense, emotional—appears throughout the restaurant, accentuated by carefully calibrated cool light temperatures that enhance the blue tones without distorting them.
A special focus was placed on the bar, conceived as a key point of gathering and expression. Here, directional and controlled lighting creates depth, volume and character. In the ceiling, light appears as a constellation of small accents: integrated mini light points that support the architectural reading of the space without overwhelming it, allowing the atmosphere to breathe.
The overall design relies on simple, minimal luminaires—small in scale but deliberate in presence. A project where light avoids protagonism yet maintains a constant, calibrated presence, capable of evoking without ever needing to explain.
