Lighting with an Andalusian soul
Located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Río Grande pays tribute to Andalusian gastronomy through a contemporary lens. The lighting concept follows this narrative with natural coherence, working in close harmony with the architectural proposal by Proyecto Singular—a design that reinterprets the textures, patterns, and colours of southern Spain through a refreshed, modern language.
The space is organised into three main areas, each with its own distinct lighting identity:
In the main dining room, elegant and restrained in character, decorative luminaires take centre stage. These large-format pieces, custom-designed and crafted from refined materials, softly diffuse the light to create a warm, enveloping, and serene atmosphere.
The covered terrace, inspired by the Andalusian patio, features discreet architectural lighting that gently highlights the vertical rhythm of the pergola’s columns. Here, light modulates the space with subtlety, enhancing perception while remaining almost invisible—always in balance with the architecture.
On the river terrace—an open-air space surrounded by lush vegetation—the lighting focuses on visual comfort. The design enhances the connection to the landscape, framing views of the river and the nearby Torre del Oro while respecting the natural ambience of the night.
Throughout the project, small points of light act as a visual thread: tiny sparkles woven into the greenery or glimmers emerging from fountains, subtly evoking Andalusi symbolism. These details reference the Arab legacy still present in the architecture and culture of southern Spain, now reimagined through lighting.
Farolas and farolillos (traditional lanterns) complete the exterior spaces, providing a warm and familiar glow typical of Andalusian courtyards. The use of natural fibres, clay, and glass in the custom decorative lighting adds richness and depth, generating a play of textures, reflections, and shadows that connect light to material—and material to emotion.
