Café Comercial

Lighting Café Comercial has been, for Light & Studio, the culmination of a project deeply rooted in Madrid’s emotional and architectural memory. Approached with reverence for its history, the lighting design was developed in close collaboration with Madrid in Lovestudio, striking a balance between present-day functionality and heritage authenticity.

The goal was clear: to preserve the spirit of the space while adapting it to contemporary use. Original luminaires were carefully restored and repurposed, and every new fixture was selected with intent—not only for its function, but to contribute meaningfully to a coherent visual and narrative ensemble.

Among the most distinctive elements of the project is the discreet lighting integrated into the stage floor, and the gentle treatment of wall inscriptions—phrases rescued from the café’s most iconic and literary patrons, preserved as part of its living identity

The intervention respects the rhythm of the place: natural daylight continues to filter through the original windows, interwoven with warm, measured artificial light that supports the space without overpowering it.

A constant dialogue between tradition and the present transforms this project into a quiet tribute to a place embedded in the collective memory of the city.
