When design and light transform the passion for football

Redesigning the boxes at Abanca-Riazor Stadium meant moving away from the conventional concept of a sports space to create two atmospheres with their own identity, where hospitality, local culture, and a passion for football blend together in a refined way. Building on the Studio Antonius concept, at Light&Studio we developed a lighting strategy aimed at highlighting the essence of each environment and supporting the different flows of the space before, during, and after the match.

Bruma Box: Art, Freshness, and Light in High Key

The space is divided into two boxes. Bruma, inspired by the legendary Soho Houses around the world, is designed to be the city’s most vibrant meeting point. Aimed at a young, easygoing, cosmopolitan audience, it offers a fresh, sweet, colorful, and effortlessly cool atmosphere. For this space, we developed a high-key light architecture, more ethereal and luminous, where wall sconces, strategically positioned, bathe the vertical surfaces and visually elevate the ceiling height. The absolute stars are the artworks by Galician artists that adorn the walls and will rotate every season. The ones shown in the images are by the artist Héctor Francesch. To give these pieces a museum-like treatment without breaking the aesthetic of the space, we integrated tracks with adjustable accent projectors into the acoustic ceiling itself. The color blending of the tracks with the shades of the ceiling ensures a subtle presence, providing huge flexibility to reconfigure the light beams in a space where exhibitions, photoshoots, pop-up dining experiences, and live DJ sessions coexist.

Business Box: The warmth of the classic sports lounge and local cuisine

In an evocative counterpoint, the Business Box is conceived as The Sporting Club, a sophisticated reimagining of the classic sports lounge integrated with the culinary spirit of A Bodeguinha. Far from the typical sports bar, this environment stands out for its warmth and its nostalgic nod to the game: a designer pool table illuminated by a suspended light fixture with warm, even lighting acts as the heart of the space. The walls, which hold portraits of the club’s heroes, invite visitors to keep the history alive. The interior architecture makes honest use of noble woods, paneling, and brass and glass details. Here, Light&Studio’s strategy relies on a scheme highlighted with warm light that emphasizes the volume and richness of the materials. We subtly light the display cases with historical memorabilia, which are the stars of the space. Wall lights with brass and glass finishes create warm, soft spots of light that complement the showcooking and the offerings from the local menu, while recessed optics ensure absolute visual comfort and prevent glare. A low-light key creates a cozy space and ensures that the focus remains on the playing field on the other side of the windows.

A living architecture in Riazor

The result is a living architecture where light acts as the guiding thread that excites, gives rhythm to the space, and accompanies the endless ways of feeling the passion for sports.
